…cracked asphalt repaired with tar appears like giant scribbles on the road. To me they have all the characteristics of an abstract sketch. I see them as Readymades[ 1 ] (as defined by Marcel Duchamp). All they need is to be extracted from the road and hung on the wall. Photographing them seams the obvious method. My somewhat corrupted intellect slips into the process and aspects of composition and cropping begin.
I see the road as an honest and real abstract expression.

… spękany i zamalowany smołą asfalt wygląda jak olbrzymie bazgroły.
Posiadają one wszystkie cechy abstrakcyjnego szkicu. Widzę je jako “Readymades”[ 2 ] (według definicji Marcel Duchamp). Są skończone, gotowe do prezentacji, wystarczy je powiesić na ścianie.
Fotografowanie ich wydaje się oczywistą metodą. Mój skorumpowany estetyką intelekt przemyca do procesu aspekty kompozycji i formatowania.
Patrzę na ten kawałek drogi jak na bardzo szczere i nie przekłamane, abstrakcyjne expresje.

Marcel Duchamp explains Readymades in an interview with Pierre Cabanne, published by Thames and Hudson in 1971.
  CABANE: How did you come to choose a mass-product object, a "ready-made," to make a work of art?
  DUCHAMP: "Please note that I didn't want to make a work of art out of it.
The word "readymade" did not appear until 1915, when I put a bicycle wheel on a stool, the fork down, there was no idea of a "readymade," or anything else. It was just a distraction. I didn't have any special reason to do it, or any intention of showing it or describe anything. No, nothing like all that...
  ... In 1915, I did the "Bottle Rack." I just bought it, at the bazaar of the town hall. The idea of an inscription came as I was doing it. There was an inscription on the bottle rack which I forget. When I moved from the rue Saint-Hippolyte to leave for the United States, my sister and sister-in-law took everything out, threw it in the garbage, and said no more about it. It was 1915, especially in United States, that I did other objects with inscriptions, like the snow shovel, on which I wrote something in English. The word "readymade" thrust itself on me then. It seemed perfect for these things that weren't works of art, that weren't sketches, and to which no art terms applied. That's why I was tempted to make them."
